Description
Most freelance freelance consultants don’t have a proper contract. They work from an email exchange, or a statement of work borrowed from someone else. This works fine until it doesn’t, and when it doesn’t, the absence of a clear agreement is a significant problem.
How to use this
Fill in the project-specific details (client name, project description, timeline, fee) in the shaded fields. Read through the standard clauses to check they fit your working arrangement, a few may need adapting for longer retainer relationships.
Send the contract to the client before any work begins. If they want to negotiate specific clauses, that’s a reasonable conversation to have; make changes in writing and both parties sign the final version.
Keep a signed copy. If a dispute arises, the contract is your reference point.
