Just 7% did so for a perceived financial upside.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><b>Open the Floodgates<\/b><span style=&quot;font-weight: 400;&quot;>: Two in three freelancers in the study have been independent for less than three years. The largest share of newly-minted independents are creatives.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><b>Death of the Office:<\/b><span style=&quot;font-weight: 400;&quot;> 25% of freelancers surveyed said they are \u201cdigital nomads,\u201d working and traveling remotely in cities around the world. Looking ahead, 60% of respondents said they\u2019d consider adopting a nomadic lifestyle in the future.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><b>R-E-S-P-E-C-T: <\/b><span style=&quot;font-weight: 400;&quot;>Freelancers reported getting stiffed by clients across all income levels, with 44% saying they\u2019ve had trouble collecting payment before. More than 60% of respondents said there is a general lack of respect for the freelance community.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><b>Freelance Wage Gap: <\/b><span style=&quot;font-weight: 400;&quot;>Male respondents were 4.5X more likely to earn more than $150K a year than female respondents, yet more men said they had been stiffed by a client.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><b>What\u2019s Missing?<\/b><span style=&quot;font-weight: 400;&quot;> 61% of freelancers say they miss the feeling of community that a traditional workplace affords.
