Who it’s for
Useful if you are currently agreeing projects through email threads or informal conversations. Also useful if you have had scope disputes and want a clearer starting point for the next project. Not useful if your client has their own contractual templates they require suppliers to use, in that case you need to review theirs, not provide yours.
If it works
If the scope section is written in concrete, specific terms, both sides have a shared reference point when questions arise about what is and is not included. The change request section is the part most people skip and then need. Define it before work starts, not when a change request arrives.
A statement of work reduces ambiguity; it does not eliminate disagreement. A client who disputes the scope after the fact will dispute it whether or not you have a signed document, though the document does make your position considerably clearer.
