Who it’s for
Useful if you are moving a client relationship onto a monthly retainer and want a clear agreement in place. Not a substitute for legal advice on a high-value or complex engagement. The template covers standard terms; unusual arrangements may need something more tailored.
If it works
If the scope section defines what the retainer includes in concrete terms and the unused time policy is explicit, both sides know what they are agreeing to. The unused time section is the one most people skip and then have a difficult conversation about six months in.
A signed retainer agreement does not prevent relationship problems. It provides a reference point if there is a dispute about what was agreed. Whether the relationship itself is good depends on other things.
