Who it’s for
Useful if you share project timelines with clients and find that the current format creates confusion about who is responsible for what, or if clients regularly miss review deadlines because they did not realise they were coming. Not useful if your projects are too short or too fluid for a formal timeline, or if your client uses project management software and expects you to work within it.
If it works
If you send the timeline before the kickoff meeting and walk through it together, clients arrive at each stage knowing what is expected of them. The buffer time column is the section most people skip and then regret when the first delay happens.
A timeline does not keep a project on track. It creates a shared reference point. Whether things stay on track depends on both sides doing what they said they would do.
