Description
A brief template for writing up a portfolio case study. It prompts you to capture what the project was, what you did, what you delivered, and what the result was.
What’s included
- CSV template file (opens in Google Sheets or Excel)
- Case study brief covering client context, challenge, approach, deliverables, and results
- Prompts for extracting measurable outcomes from projects
- A client feedback capture section
Who it’s for
Useful if you have done good work but have not documented it in a way you can show to prospective clients. Also useful if you find it hard to write about your own work without underselling it. Not useful if you do not yet have projects worth writing up, or if clients have asked you to keep the work confidential and you have not negotiated any exceptions.
If it works
If you complete a brief immediately after each project, while the detail is still fresh, you will build up a portfolio of case studies that are specific enough to be useful. The results section is the hardest part. It is worth pushing yourself to find a number even if it is approximate. Vague results read as no results.
A strong portfolio does not guarantee enquiries. It answers questions that prospective clients have once they have already found you. If the problem is visibility, not credibility, fixing the portfolio is not the priority.
