Who it’s for
Useful if you are auditing a client website before a redevelopment or strategy project, or reviewing your own content. Not useful if the site has very little existing content, there is nothing to audit. Also not useful if the client expects a full quantitative audit with analytics deep-dives, this is a structured review tool, not a data analysis service.
If it works
If you work through the inventory systematically and use the prioritisation matrix, you will end up with a clear decision about each piece of content and a manageable action list. The process takes longer than most people expect, particularly for larger sites.
A content audit tells you what is there and how it is performing. It does not tell you what the content should be doing. That is a strategy question that comes after.
