Client vetting checklist

$0.00

A structured checklist of questions to work through before agreeing to any new client project, so you can make better decisions about which work to take on.

Description

A checklist of questions to work through before agreeing to a new project. It is not a scoring system that produces a verdict. It is a list of things worth knowing before you say yes.

What’s included

  • CSV template file (opens in Google Sheets or Excel)
  • Twenty vetting questions across five risk areas
  • A scoring column to rate each response
  • A decision section with a proceed, pause, or decline framework

Who it’s for

Useful if you have said yes to projects you later regretted, or if you tend to make decisions quickly and only spot the warning signs afterwards. Also useful if you are building the discipline of choosing clients deliberately rather than reactively. Not useful if you are in a slow period and will take almost anything, the checklist will tell you things you already know and cannot act on yet.

If it works

If you use it consistently, it slows down the yes enough to let the warning signs register. Some questions you will not be able to answer until the discovery call, which is fine. The gaps are information too.

It will not protect you from a client who presents well and turns difficult later. No checklist does. What it does is reduce the number of bad fits that were predictable in advance.

Before you download

  • This is a CSV file. Open it in Google Sheets or Excel. It will not work as a document or a PDF.
  • After downloading, you will find the file in your account under My Downloads.
  • You are getting a licence to use and adapt this for your own work. You cannot sell, redistribute, or share it with others.
