Description
Eight email templates for common boundary conversations with clients: out-of-hours contact, response time expectations, scope additions, and others. They are drafts to adapt, not scripts to send verbatim.
What’s included
- CSV template file (opens in Google Sheets or Excel)
- Eight email templates for common boundary situations
- Out-of-hours policy, response time, scope addition, and invoice dispute templates
- Guidance on framing and tone for each scenario
Who it’s for
Useful if you find it difficult to say no to clients or to set limits without feeling you are damaging the relationship. The templates help you find language that is firm without being cold. Not useful if you have not yet established any working norms with your clients, sending a boundary email to a new client before there has been a boundary issue can feel premature.
If it works
The template you send at the start of a new client relationship, setting out how you prefer to work, prevents most of the situations the other templates address. Using it proactively is more effective than responding reactively.
Some clients will not respect boundaries regardless of how clearly they are stated. These templates help you state them clearly and professionally. What happens after that depends on the client.
