Who it’s for
Useful if you are brought in to support a change programme where communications have not been planned yet. Not useful if the change is happening without real leadership buy-in, communications work cannot compensate for a programme that is not actually being supported from the top, and this template will not help you pretend otherwise.
If it works
If you complete the stakeholder mapping before drafting any messages, you will communicate differently to different audiences rather than sending everyone the same update. That distinction is what makes change communications effective rather than just busy.
Change communications cannot make a bad change feel good. It can make the experience of a difficult change feel handled rather than chaotic. That is a meaningful but limited contribution.
